I hope you are all keeping safe and well in this current emergency situation.
Your Committee continues to meet using online web-meeting technology on a weekly basis, so that we can keep abreast of the rapidly evolving situation. This also allows us to ensure that we can plan for the eventual return to "Normal Sailing Activity".
We have one specific Committee member visiting the Club weekly to check on the condition and security of the whole Club Grounds, Boat Park and Clubhouse. To date, all the members' boats seem to be in good order around the boat park so please don't worry about your boat. Should any boat need attention then we will resolve the issue or report to the owner as necessary.
This public health emergency could not have come at a worse time for many sailing clubs including Shustoke, whose renewal of memberships occurs at the beginning of April. I am very pleased to say that at least 73 members have already renewed their memberships up to today and I wish to warmly thank all of those members for their prompt renewals. But clearly, there are many more still to follow their lead. It remains really important for the whole membership to go on to the Members' Portal and click Renew ASAP.
Before the Covid-19 crisis we wrote to members requesting everybody to renew promptly this year because we do not wish to be chasing members for their subscriptions after the month of April. Not only that but the Club continues to have financial commitments that need to be met whether we are sailing or not, so the Club needs your membership fees to survive. If it becomes necessary to chase then we may well have to consider reinstating the Joining Fee, to add to any subscription renewal. Remember: the full year's fee is due for anyone rejoining in April, May or June and anyone "joining" even later in the year, after being a member in 2019-20, will be classified as a late payment which could also attract a late payment fee.
The process of chasing subscriptions puts a heavy strain on our volunteer Committee members who all have "other lives" too. We understand that at this current point in this crisis people are probably reluctant to commit to many things for understandable reasons. However some things are more important than others and I would suggest that your sailing club membership is one of the items that should be considered as essential. As mentioned above, the Club continues to have bills to pay, whether we are sailing or not, so the Club needs your membership fees to stay afloat.
This crisis will end! That is certain. When it will end nobody knows, but end it will, and once it is over we all need our sailing club to be there waiting for us to return to our wonderful sport / hobby.
Your Committee is currently busy planning something quite special for a grand reopening, so let's all look forward to a swift end to this current crisis and let's get back to doing what we enjoy best SAILING! We are all looking forward to seeing you again as soon as possible.
Please All Stay Safe, Stay Well.
