Dinghy Sailing Courses

At Shustoke Sailing Club we offer a variety of training courses to suit all people from complete beginners to those who are competent but would like to improve their sailing and racing skills and knowledge in the sport.

2026 Training Programme

Open Days We usually hold two open days in the spring at the weekend or on Bank Holidays between 11:00 and 15:00. View the club and take a 10 minute sailing taster. Dress for the weather and bring old shoes/trainers that can get wet. Minimum age for taster sessions is 8. There is no upper limit !

Adult Sailing Courses

RYA Level 1 Start Sailing (two days) Aimed at complete beginners. Learn to tack and gybe with an instructor in the boat with you. Price £175. Click here to book your place, and select a Level 1 ticket.

RYA Level 2 Basic Skills (two days). Aimed at those who have completed Level 1. Build your confidence and gain the skills needed to sail and make decisions in good conditions. Become an independent sailor. Click here to book your place, and select a Level 2 ticket.

We hold Level 1 and Level 2 courses on a number of weekends through the summer months. Once you have completed Level 1 and Level 2, you can benefit from 3 months free use of club boats for practice. You will also be able to join the monthly Novice races with an experienced crew.

Price: £175 for each 2 day course.

Please note that cancellations less than 2 weeks before the course will not be refunded. Temporary membership for the duration of the course and an additional month is included within the course fees.

Once you have completed Level 1 and Level 2, you will be eligible to apply for free membership for the remainder of the membership year which is until the end of March.

Junior Sailing Courses

RYA Stage 1 Introduction to Sailing (two days). Aimed at complete beginners. An introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing. This is normally conducted with the children on their own in either Optimists or Toppers, with trainers in a safety boat. These courses are fun as well as learning. Minimum age of 8. RYA Stage 2 Start Sailing (two days). Aimed at those who have completed Stage 1. Develop the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor. This is normally conducted with the children on their own in either Optimists or Toppers, with trainers in a safety boat. These courses are fun as well as learning. Minimum age of 8. Click here to book your place, and select a Stage 2 ticket.

Once you have completed Stage 1 and Stage 2 you will also be able to join the Junior Pirate sessions, and the monthly Novice races.

We hold Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses throughout the summer.

Please note that for Junior training, Under 16s are required to be accompanied at the club by a responsible adult at all times.

Price: £75 for each 2 day course.
