Stand Up Paddleboard
Stand Up Paddleboarding
Shustoke Sailing Club now has a rapidly growing SUP club, consisting of existing sailing members, and a group of very friendly SUP’ers. If you would like to come and have a look or join us, please pop to the contact or membership page to see whats involved.
Once you are a member you can either use your own board or we have 7 club boards. For SSC members, boards are free to hire for this first year. For further details please see the Stand-Up Paddleboard and Sailing membership page which starts from just £7.90 a month (£95 per year).
Anyone wishing to paddle on the lake must:
- Have your own 3rd party insurance. Available here, with BSUPA, (£25 per year for membership) or here for options, for as little as £12 per year.
- Wear a buoyancy aid, although a limited selection of buoyancy aids are available to borrow.
- Stay within the designated Stand-Up Paddleboard area of the lake.
- Adhere to the Stand-Up Paddleboard terms and conditions, as detailed below.
- Note: Current hours are 10am – 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, due to our race schedule and safety cover. Note there may be an hour break for lunch. Please talk to the OOD for details.
- Note: Additional use may also be available when the club is open with safety cover. This is generally on public holidays and Thursday evenings during the summer.
If a SUP course is something that you would be interested in, whatever level of experience you have, please get in touch with our training team who will be delighted to help. We have taster sessions on the second Saturday of the month through the summer so why not book yourself on one for £20 per session?
Please keep checking the ABOUT section for upcoming Stand-Up Paddleboard Events being held throughout the year.

You can only use the water when there is a rescue boat with the crew available and on station.
You must be a confident swimmer and under normal circumstance be able to self-rescue.
Additional advisory points:
Water based activities have an inherent risk associated to them which cannot be fully mitigated. Always ensure you are aware of the risks and have taken adequate precautions. If in doubt, don’t go out!
Where possible, always use a Stand-Up Paddleboard with a buddy either on the water with you or someone on shore looking out for you.
Keep clear of sail racing activities.
Be cautious when close to the bank in case of falling in and hitting objects either on the water surface or just below underwater.
Be careful in winds above 5 knots, ensuring you always first paddle into the wind so that you are confident you can paddle safely back to shore.
If you require assistance, generally stay with the board, and use the international distress signal to request assistance (Ensure you know what this is before going on the water.)
Try to clear the launch slipway as quickly as possible to keep the area free for other water users.
The usable area for Stand-Up Paddleboards while sail racing is taking place is the lake perimeter and the eastern end of the lake – see below.
